Solar Suitcase Educational Kit

Each We Share Solar® Suitcase kit ships with everything required to build a stand-alone 12-volt DC solar power system. It includes a full-color assembly and commissioning guide with written and visual step-by-step instructions.

The We Share Solar Suitcase kit offers students hands-on experience with:

A typical classroom package includes one teacher demonstration suitcase, kits for student use, one solar panel with homerun cable, one 14 amp-hour battery, and additional tools for assembly and continuity testing. Our Solar Suitcase Student Kit does not include a solar panel or battery.

Designed for reuse, the We Share Solar Suitcase can be disassembled and used as a learning tool year after year.

The We Share Solar Suitcase ships with four 5W LED lights, a micro USB phone charger and a 15 amp 12/24-volt solar charge controller. An appropriately sized solar panel and battery are added in destination countries.

A professional quality 15 amp 12/24-volt solar charge controller displays system functions, provides overload prevention, and offers battery protection.

LED Lights on Cords

Each durable plastic 5W LED bulb provides an 8 foot diameter of clean, bright, ambient light. The lights connect to the suitcase via the 23’ (7m) cords to the receptacles located on the main control board. The lights included in the Solar Suitcase run on 12-volt DC power and are able to withstand travel, heat, moisture, and dirt.

LED Lights via Switch Box

A student-built, professionally-tested switch box with two 5W LED lights extends the lighting capacity of the Solar Suitcase. A 30’ (9m) cord connects the switch box to the main control board via an expansion port to power the lights.

The Solar Suitcase comes equipped with a single USB to Micro-USB charging cable.

Suitcase Assembly

Once students have completed their build, the assembled suitcases are shipped back to our manufacturer to be professionally tested to assure construction quality and system reliability.

System Testing

A technician carefully checks every part of every suitcase to guarantee circuit validity and connection strength. When quality assurance is complete, we add a deployment kit containing everything required to install the suitcase.

Deployment

Upon arrival in the destination country, each system is paired with a battery and a solar panel. We purchase these items in-country to support the local economies and to create a network that can provide replacement parts when needed.

Installation

Our trained partners install the entire solar system and train the school staff on proper usage and maintenance.

Training

We Share Solar is dedicated to serving students on both ends of our program – those who build the suitcase and those who use it. Each suitcase ships with our solar energy primer, “The Power of the Sun” and a comprehensive user’s manual.
